JERRABOMBERRA NEEDS TO BE HEARD

 The JRA is asking QPRC to:

• proceed with Dunns Creek Road;
• select Option 5 as the preferred route for further investigation and community consultation;
• undertake the detailed environmental, engineering, planning and transport work needed to determine how Option 5 could be delivered; and
• avoid treating further major upgrades through the established Jerrabomberra community as the long-term solution to regional traffic growth.

The Jerrabomberra Residents Association supports Option 5.

Jerrabomberra should not continue to carry regional through-traffic generated by development outside our suburb.

Dunns Creek Road was always intended to provide the missing road connection needed to accommodate growth to the south of Jerrabomberra and provide a more direct connection to the wider road network.

Option 5 connects with Old Cooma Road at the Googong Road intersection and was the route identified as Council's preferred option in 2015.

Dunns Creek Road provides the opportunity to address that problem properly.

We need a regional road solution for regional traffic.

Council's “No Dunns Creek Road – Northern Route” alternatives include major upgrades through the existing Jerrabomberra road network, including an overpass at Jerrabomberra Circle. Other alternatives involve further signalisation and widening of the existing road system through Jerrabomberra.

These proposals demonstrate exactly why this decision matters.

Rather than continuing to retrofit larger and larger pieces of regional road infrastructure into an established residential community, JRA believes the regional traffic problem needs to be addressed with a regional road connection.

Jerrabomberra Circle should not become the long-term answer to Googong's traffic growth.

Options 2A, 2B and 2C would take Dunns Creek Road through or alongside the Fernleigh Park area.

JRA understands why Fernleigh Park residents are fighting to protect their homes and their community.

We agree with them.

Established communities should not have to pay the price for development somewhere else.

But that principle cannot stop at the Fernleigh Park boundary.

IT MUST APPLY TO JERRABOMBERRA TOO.

Protecting one established community by leaving another established community to carry regional traffic indefinitely is not the answer.

There needs to be a better solution.

JRA believes Option 5 should be selected by QPRC.

Option 5 has not suddenly appeared in this consultation.

Council confirms that Option 5 was its preferred route in 2015. It also confirms that the route was not protected through a Planning Proposal and that biodiversity stewardship sites were subsequently registered over land along the corridor in 2017 and 2018. That chronology matters. Option 5 was not invented after the biodiversity sites were established. The regional transport solution came first. The constraint came later.

That history matters.

The environmental constraints associated with Option 5 need to be properly addressed. However, JRA does not believe those constraints alone justify ruling out the route before the detailed environmental, engineering and planning investigations have been completed. 

The JRA believes Option 5 should proceed to that next level of investigation so that the environmental, engineering, planning and transport issues can be properly examined.

Council will consider the community feedback at an Extraordinary Council Meeting on 21 October 2026.

Council will be asked to decide whether Dunns Creek Road should proceed and, if so, which route is preferred.
